Lot Essay

"Here Fullbrook brings an original and unexpected slant to a subject honoured by Australia's realist painters and his own memories of life in the sheds during his youth. By isloating the humble image of the shearer and his newly shorn lamb in the centre, adding a galah and drenching the entire surface with the miraculous colours of early morning, he gives the subject a sense of deeper significance. This significance is emphasised through reference to biblical imagery, such as the Joseph figure and angels in the sky in Giotto's famous frescoes in the Arena Chapel, Padua." (F St John Moore, op.cit, p.60)
