The 'Fall of Troy' overmantel painting depicts the flight of the hero Aeneas, son of Venus, and a Trojan prince and legendary founder of the Roman race. His history is recounted in Ovid's, Metamorphoses or Loves of the Gods and Virgils, Aeneid. This painting is executed en suite with the overdoor (Lot 226).
