Margaret Stirling (1720-1802), sixth daughter of James Stirling of Keir (1679-1749), married Sir Hugh Hamilton of Rosehall, whose forbear had been one of these who purchased the forfeited Keir estate for her eldest brother, John, after the Fifteen. She is supposed to have helped her father escape from Dumbarton Castle in 1746 by concealing a rope-ladder under her dress.
