Lot Essay

The present work by the acclaimed Iraqi Modernist Shaker Hassan Al Said, was painted after he established the One Dimension Group whereby he explored the visualisation of Arabic script in Modern art through inspiration from Sufism. Referencing cracked walls, graffiti and other symbols, the present work reflects the artist's obsession of examining the deep relationship between time and space. Focusing on the beauty and mystical element of lines and Arabic letters, Al Said transcends the literal meanings of text and instead examines the profound effect of lines and dimensionality to bring himself closer to God.
