Lot Essay

A prolific artist and designer of stained glass, Sidney Meteyard also illuminated rolls of honour, decorated enamel plaques, and painted altarpieces. Meteyard studied under E.R. Taylor at the Birmingham School of Art, and subsequently joined the staff in 1886. He was greatly influenced by Burne-Jones, whom it is likely that he met at the school.
