Lot Essay
This view of Ambleside is typical of the Lakeland Fells. Percy first visited the area in the late 1840s. Though not painted as a pair to Loch Tay, Perthshire (lot 248), the present lot shares identical measurements and belongs to the same group of cabinet-sized pictures produced by Percy at the time. These views, depicting views of Scotland and the Lake District, proved immensely popular. They are now relatively rare.
