Of cylindrical form with strap handle, painted in poupre camaïeu with a garden scene in the manner of Fragonard and enriched in gilt, the mounts chased with strapwork and inset with small portrait medallions, the cover inset with a quatrefoil plaquette depicting a figure emblematic of America sitting at the shore, a hut in the background, a snapping alligator at the right--6 5/8in.
