Building the Rick

Building the Rick depicts two farmworkers constructing a hayrick under the heat of the sun. In these early scenes of rural life Munnings was clearly influenced by previous East Anglian landscape painters. The present work has a quiet, peaceful quality reminiscent of the work of Constable.
