Lot Essay
The present lot was a gift from Munnings to his loyal framer, Frank Henry Patrickson of J.J. Patrickson, Fulham, London. Through Munnings' introduction, Winston Churchill also became a valued client.

Burst, volume two of Munning's three volume autobiography. The artist stayed with the Riley-Smiths at Trulston near Leeds in 1926. W. Riley-Smith was a keen polo player and Munnings' portrait of him entitled Changing Ponies was exhibited at the Royal Academy the following year. He also painted a portrait of Mrs Riley-Smith "on a wonderful mare - a grey called Snowflake".
