There is an inscription on the reverse in the hand of a former owner: 'This study of trees painted by Sir Alfred Munnings, P.P.R.A. was painted/from the late Frank Wellsman's workshopdoor, upstairs, behind his house on/the Old Station Road, looking on to the old Heath House (now apprentice's/Hostel) gardens - Bought by me from Frank Wellsman's sisters in 1954/Fred Butters'.
