Sir Frank Lockwood, Q.C., (1846-1897), lawyer and politician, was perhaps best known for the central role he played as Solicitor-General in the trial and prosecution of Oscar Wilde in 1895. He was also a keen artist and his sketches depicting the occasional humours of the Houses of Commons were much in demand - King Edward VII (1841-1910) was an avid collector of his work. He drew frequently for Punch and some of his sketches were published in The Frank Lockwood Sketch Book (1898); his lecture 'The Law and Lawyers of Pickwick' was published in 1894, the same year in which he received his knighthood.
