Lot Essay

The third son of Sir John Cathcart, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Kennedy, daughter of Sir John Kennedy of Culzean, 2nd Bt., Sir Andrew Cathcart succeeded to the Baronetcy in 1783 upon the death of his elder brother, Sir John Cathcart, 3rd Bt. The present work is believed to have been executed circa 1790.
