He is one of less than a hundred recognised Savants in the world - displaying extraordinary talent that emerges from his autism. Diagnosed with autism at the age of three, Wiltshire was mute as a child and only able to communicate with the world through his drawings. By nine his teachers had encouraged him to speak by temporarily removing his pens and paper so that he had to ask for them back. With an eidetic memory, Wiltshire is able to draw life-like representations of cities and landmarks after observing them only briefly. In October 2009 he completed the ninth and largest of his city panoramas, this time in New York. After just a 20 minute helicopter ride, he spent 6 days recreating the whole city in meticulous detail on a 20 foot long canvas, entirely from memory. Unbelievable feats like this have led Wiltshire to become the subject of numerous television documentaries as well as newspaper and magazine articles. In 2006 he was awarded an M.B.E. for services to the art world, an extremely rare achievement for someone so young. Times Square at night is the third oil painting Wiltshire ever painted and depicts his two main loves: buildings and cars. It is an exquisite example of Wiltshire's talent and one of his most iconic creations to date.
