Lot Essay
Stick's sleek human figures are about feelings and emotions: love, anger, joy, fear, friendship and the vulnerability of human feelings skillfully expressed by six lines and two dots for eyes. Fiercely private about his identity, he lived briefly in Japan, where he was introduced to calligraphy. Stik returned to the UK in 2000 and worked for several years as a life model at the R.A, St. Martin's and Goldsmith's and although he had no formal training there, he perceived and developed his innate understanding of the body and human expression. This year, Stik was invited to complete a series of public murals for Dulwich Picture Galley, with the aim of sparking a dialogue between classical and street art, which was extremely well received.
