Terrick Williams studied both in Antwerp with Verlat and at the Academie Julian in Paris. Many of his early subjects were of the coastal harbours of northern France, but by the 1890s Williams was a regular visitor to St Ives. Until 1902 he was the drawing master at the Royal Military Academy in Woolich, after which time he devoted himself totally to his painting and travelled extensively. He was elected president of the Royal Institute in 1933.
