THE CONGO FREE STATE

A set of four albums containing tipped-in press-clippings extracted from periodicals published in London, Paris, Brussels and other locations, chromolithographic, woodcut and other prints, offprints, and other items of printed ephemera, dating from 1878 but the majority dated 1884-1885 and captioned in manuscript, the four albums with preliminary index leaves, those in three completed in manuscript. (Scattered light spotting or browning, ocassional minor tears to inserted items.) Brown and green roan-backed boards, titled in gilt on the spines 'Newspaper Cuttings', the albums manufactured by Marcus Ward & Co. (spines worn, causing losses, one board detached).

An interesting journalistic record of press reporting on the Congo in the mid 1880s put together for Stanley presumably by an agency. (4)
