The above Coppa Italia was won by Torino in 1943, in the final they defeated Venezia 4-0, this was the Italian side second Coppa Italia victory. The 1942-43 season also seen Torino do 'the double' for the first time when they won the League Championship, finishing with 44 points. one point ahead of Livorno. The Torino side of the 1940s went on to dominate the Italian League winning the next four-in-a-row

Tragically in 1949 eighteen members of the squad were killed in an air crash when the plane flying home from a match in Portugal crashed into a hillside at Superga, just outside Turin. The disaster claimed the lives of not only the Torino star players but also the bulk of the Italian National side

It was not until 1971 that Torino won the Coppa Italia for a third time after defeating Milan in a thrilling match. To mark this occassion and the retirement of Natalino Fossati, captain of the winning side, the above cup was presented to him by the President of Torino Football Club
