An Italian green and parcel-gilt four-post bed
Circa 1888, in the Baroque style
Decorated with trailing vines, carved acanthus and masks, the headboard painted with the Strathmore and Kinghorne Coat-of-Arms and inscribed 'Claude and Cecilia', the tester with a printed paper Hampton & Sons, Ltd., depository label inscribed in ink 'H.M. The Queen Mother., No. 19131' and a side-rail labelled 'From Glamis Castle, 26.11.48', with a later paper property label for Princess Margaret

Lot Essay

Claude George Bowes-Lyon, 14th and 1st Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (1855-1944) married Nina Cecilia Cavendish-Bentinck (1862-1938) at Petersham, Surrey on 16th July 1888.
According to a label attached to the bed, it was moved from Glamis Castle on 26 November 1948.
