THE HOLY WOMEN AT THE SEPULCHRE RUSSIAN, 15TH CENTURY The three holy women, Mary Mother of God, Mary Magdalene and Mary of Cleopas, advancing from the left, holding unguents with myrrh, encountering a sarcophagus containing only the shroud of Christ, the seated angel animatedly pointing to the empty tomb, rocky hills behind, the image's horizon limited by the high walls of Jerusalem; the elegant figures of the Myrophorae rendered with saturated tones, reflecting the colours of the sarcophagus, the angel's wings and walls, the rest subtly painted in pastel 12 3/8 x 10 in. (31.4 x 25.4 cm)
