GREEK, 18TH CENTURY
The crowned Mother of God holding Christ, him represented as the High Priest, bearing a globe and a sceptre, two angels above holding a garland inscribed: 'The Unfading Rose. Rejoice, you who alone has blossomed forth (the Unfading Rose)', in the background a number of attributes deriving from the descriptions of the Mother of God in the 'Akathistos Hymn' (the Sun, the Heavenly Ladder and the 'Container of God's Wisdom'), painted with bright colours against a light blue background
