Lot Essay

Drawn by one of Mackintosh's assistants. Francis Smith supplied one square desk based on this drawing which is the only record of the appearance of these two items, now lost. Despite the apparent complexity of each desk, the low price charged for them suggests that they were simply executed in cheap materials with no glass or metal decoration.
