The front section designed as a Nepalese Kumari gold nine-headed snake with faceted emerald bead and freshwater pearl flexible drops, emerging from a gold ovoid bar applied with two carved emerald and cabochon ruby paisley clusters to the two-strand green glass bead necklace with cabochon ruby wishbone dividers and gold rondelle intersections, with green glass and ruby clasp, 35.0 cm. (glass of ancient Ethiopian origin)
The Kumari cult of Nepal and parts of Northern India designated a young girl as the incarnation of the goddess Kali. Such necklaces were an important part of her ceremonial jewellery.
