Details
The Sportsman's Magazine; or, Chronicle of Games and Pastimes. London: Hodgson, February [-July] 1824.

Volume II [of 3 published] with supplement, 12°, engraved frontispiece: "The Sportsman's Magazine vol. II", 7 engraved plates, most portraits, wood-engraved illustrations (light browning, the parts to The Compleat Angler not bound in), uncut in contemporary boards (rebacked). Provenance: C.F.G.R. Schwerdt (bookplate).

SCHWERDT COPY OF VOLUME II. This rare and short-lived magazine put strong emphasis on pugilism, but also reported on angling, cocking, hawking, coursing, and more unusually pedestrianism, rowing, aquatic sports, "the golf" and, in June and July, cricket. The results of three matches are recorded in June (pp. 227-28), and a greater number in July (pp. 272-74); the same wood-engraving illustrates both issues. Padwick 1211-3; Schwerdt II, p. 221.
