This kit was custom-made for Keith Moon by Premier in 1968. It originally consisted of two bass drums, three floor tom-toms, three mounted tom-toms and a snare drum. A clipping from Premier's annual Talking Drums publication, circa 1969/1970, shows Moon with his new kit, the caption reads ...Keith Moon of "The Who" has now added to his vast collection of drums a 10-drum outfit which has an all-over chrome finish. Keith says audiences are now able to see themselves as the group sees them!...
The original vendor of this kit was a drummer in a band playing support to Thunderclap Newman. The drummer in Thunderclap Newman had been given this kit by Keith Moon. The original vendor wanted to buy the complete kit, but at the time could only afford five pieces, hence the incomplete kit offered here. According to the original vendor, he contacted Premier in 1985, and they confirmed that they built this kit for Keith Moon using a then novel chrome finish in response to his desire for something different. The kit has since been re-chromed.
