In a 1939 certificate by Hofstede de Groot, quoted in the Lempertz sale catalogue, this picture is described as ‘...een echt harakteristick, echt gemonogrammeerd en 1635 gejaarmerkt stuk van Thomas de Keyser’ (loc. cit.).
