Lot Essay

Micromosaics mounted as buttons are extremely rare. A similar bird micromosaic signed by Giacomo Raffaelli, 1783, is illustrated in D. Petochi, I mosaici minuti Romani dei secoli XVIII e XIX, Rome, 1981, p. 181, no. 8.
