THREE WOOD KISERUZUTSU [PIPECASE]
Edo Period (18th/19th Century)
A well-patinated pipecase carved in the form of a bean-pod, the decaying and worm-eaten areas faithfully depicted, the himotoshi formed by the stalk, unsigned; an unusual pipecase carved as a naked woman standing on a pile of clothing marked with a single character and holding a suggestively-shaped mushroom in both hands, her arms forming the himotoshi, unsigned; and another carved as a dragon (ivory and horn eyes) with its face at one end and two of its limbs at the other end holding a jewel, signed in incised characters just above the opening for the pipe-bowl Horyo, carved lacquer ojime in the form of a shojo [drunken sprite] hiding underneath a sake cup, signed Horyo
