Lot Essay

Maguire exhibited his paintings of columns and sarcophagi, floating in their reflections, along with his first still lifes, 'pictures of fruit drifting through Hudson River-type landscapes' (Maguire), at the Philip Dash Gallery in New York in 1987 (Et in Arcadia Ego).
