TIVOLI -- STRACHA, Gismondo. Piante delli Beni della Venerabil Congreg[azio]ne de S[ignori] Gentilhomini della Nativita della Beatissima Vergine Maria sotto il Patrocino Del Giesu in Tivoli Misurate e Delineate da Gismondo Stracha. 1661 - 1662 [with later additions].

Manuscript survey, ink and wash on paper, 2 (420 x 280mm). 21 plans showing olive groves, a vegetable garden, a vineyard, meadows, fields and buildings belonging to the Congregazione della Nativita in Tivoli and surrounding districts, architectural title page with allegorical figures, frontispiece showing the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, titles with floral cartouches, each signed 'Io Gismondo soprad[ett]o Manop[er]p[ropri]a', later annotations; together with a further five plans signed by Giovanni Francesco Ragnone (1698 and 1711) and two signed by Bartolomeo del Priore (1778), the surveys carried out on behalf of the Compagnia della Immacolate Concezzione (2 pages detached, some worming, and tears and occasional losses to outer margins). Marble paper wrappers (spine lacking, worn).

An attractive estate book, used as a working record, but nevertheless elegantly decorated. The Congregazione della Nativita della Vergine appears to have had comparatively limited holdings, although the land around Tivoli is famously rich, its olive groves being particularly renowned. [Together with:] Four notarial documents, Tivoli, 1463-1562, interrelated grants of 'horti' (orchards or kitchen gardens) in Tivoli, various sizes (350 x 360mm - 810 x 380mm), (tears, discolouration, old worming to grants of 1463 and 1562, staining to grant of 1463).
