Lot Essay

I read about Tony Fitzpatrick in the Chicago Tribune one day and set out immediately to meet him in his hometown of Villa Park on the outskirts of Chicago. He later became an excellent printmaker and collagist, using cultural detritus of all kinds as source material. I always felt lucky to have purchased this early piece featuring Muhammad Ali and rendered on an old fashioned school-style framed slate. -M.F.
