Lot Essay

Along with Nguyen Gia Tri and Nguyen Khang, Trinh Van is yet another brilliant innovator with the medium of lacquer. To Ngoc Van, the well regarded Vietnamese artist has once done a work which depicts two young ladies on two white horses against a dark background. Trinh Van was asked to convert the exact composition to lacquer which he did with great success. The artist is also celebrated for a work titled Jeu d'echecs a l'ombre des bambos (Playing chess under the bamboos).
