TWO GERMAN STOVE TILES
Dated 1674 and 1707, possibly Winterthur
Each with a wappen within a scroll-moulded surround, one dated 1764 and with the initials 'VGS' and 'AM' above the two armorial shields, the other dated 1707 and inscribed with the name 'Margreta Mauer' above the shield; 9in. (24cm.) high; together with two German fayence dishes decorated with verses within wreaths, one border sponged in manganese within blue lines, the other with stylized flower-heads, 8in. (21cm.) diam. each; a faience dish decorated in blue and white enriched in yellow with Saint Francis receiving the stigmata and inscribed 'Francois Fian 1753', 9.1/8in. (23.2cm.) diam., a faience dish painted in a purplish blue with a single rose, the shaped border with flower sprigs, 9in. (22.8cm.) diam.; and a Dutch delft blue and white triangular footed stand, painted with figures in a landscape with a castle ruin, the everted sides reserved with a vine on a blue ground, the exterior as faux-marble, 7in.
