Lot Essay

The figure of the servant also features in the Kändler Crinoline group of 1737, "The Handkiss", where he stands to the right rear of a fashionable woman seated with a pug in her lap, a gallant bowing and kissing her left hand. See Rainer Rückert, Meissener Porzellan, Munich, 1966, no. 857, Farbtafel. XXIII.

For a comparable example of each model and the engraved source for the figure of the servant, see Yvonne Adams, Meissen Figures, 1730-1775, The Kaendler Period, 2001 revised edition, pp. 196-197, nos. 521-523.
