Two Pages from a Ragamala Series:Raga Megha Malhar, Ragini Kedar and Raga Hindol, Raga Sri

Very finely painted in vibrant colors, the Raga Megha Malhar page depicting a blue figure on a terrace holding aloft a sword and surrounded by female attendants under a cloudy sky with lush rolling hills in the background; the reverse Kedar Ragini depicting a princely figure under an arched pavillion surrounded by female attendants and musicians with gold painted skies emulating sunset; the second leaf of Raga Hindol illustrating a couple on a swing flanked by their female attendants and fruiting trees with a garden of flowers and fountains in the foreground, the reverse depicting a man on elephant entering a courtyard filled with flowering trees and colorful attendants before a series of fountains and a silver pond of swimming fish and turtles, all four sides with cartouche above bearing inscription in Nastaliq and red borders with gold, black and white rules
