TWO QUR'AN BOARDS, PROBABLY SOMALIA, 20TH CENTURY
Each narrow rectangular board of driftwood with bevelled arched ends. The larger board has verses from the Qur'an on both sides written in a typical Sub-Saharan type maghribi script in black, including sura al-fatiha (I) and sura al-ikhlas (CXII) repeated several times. The smaller board is written on both sides with the letters of the Arabic alphabet - larger board 55 1/8 x 9 1/2in (140 x 24cm) (2)
