Lot Essay

Vincenzo Migliaro was celebrated for his sensitive and lively depictions of the vita di quartiere of local Neapolitans. The present watercolor gives a glimpse into the working class neighborhood of Santa Lucia situated near the main port of Naples. The oil painting of the same subject entitled Vico Grotta e vico Forno a Santa Lucia, dated 1887, is considered to be one of Migliaro's masterpieces and is housed in the Museo Nazionale di San Martino in Naples.
