Of about seventeen surviving 1759 editions of Candide this is the only one that can be confidently localized in Paris. However, in a letter of early April 1759, Voltaire spoke of six Parisian editions; their edition sizes were rather smaller than Cramer's original edition (well over 1200 copies) and they were eagerly seized by the authorities.
