Lot Essay

A well-known figure in the Edwardian age, Robertson was born in London and educated at Eton. A portrait painter, illustrator, playwright and author, he studied art under the great Aesthete Albert Moore. A collector as well as an artist, Robertson had a large collection of work by William Blake and purchased important pieces by Burne-Jones, Moore and Rossetti. He exhibited at the Carfax Gallery, the New English Art Club, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and the Goupil Gallery.
