Lot Essay

Executed with a high degree of technical skill and meticulous attention to detail, Field’s poppy field draws upon the ‘truth to nature' approach that Ruskin was championing at the time. It also shows the strong influence of the Irish artist Andrew Nicholl (1804-1886).
