Lot Essay

Wang Pan-Youn's, a renowned Taiwanese artist whose work comes from the traditional Chinese ink painting, character is identical to his painting style with emotionally rich strokes and simple but powerful picture, rendering unlimited imagination and sentimental consensus. Wang's works have unique composition with the images situated in the left or right corner or on the top or bottom associating with the composition of "Ma in a corner, Xia in a half" of the ink painting in Song Dynasty. Ma Yuan and Xia Gui leave a large piece of blank space to show the wide landscapes, forming distinctive aspect. Dancer and Cottage (Lot 1189) are intentionally blank by applying limited colors to represent the space during meditation and empty frame of mind. Landscape and Rainstorm (Lot 1190) summarized the pith of natural images by adopting the simple lines. The misty rains and the romantic sunset are totally presented in a poetic way by using splashed-ink-like effect of the integration of water colors and paper.
