8° (225 x 140 mm). Each volume with additional title pages reading “American State Papers, being a collection of Original and Authentic Documents Relative to the war between the United Stated and Great Britain”, volume one with a second additional title reading as above and a second title-page with different imprint: “Printed for G.G. and J. Robinson, B. and J. White…”. (A few pale mostly marginal stains.) Original paper-backed boards uncut, printed volume number and manuscript title on spines (some light wear to extremities and chipping to spine). Provenance: John Plumptre (armorial bookplate).

FIRST EDITION, mixed issue, containing a large number of letters from Washington to Congress written between 24 June 1775 and 31 December 1778. Letters include Washington’s own account of the evacuation of Boston, the Battle of Long Island, and the Battle of Trenton. Howes W-142; Sabin 101733.
