Lot Essay

Inspired by Lucas Vorsterman's print (V.S. 23) after Rubens' picture in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Rouen, that was acquired in 1621 for the Capucin Church in Aachen. Van Herp is also documented as having made copies of Rubens' work.
