Lot Essay

The sitter depicted is an Italian model whom Bouguereau relied upon frequently as a model during the years 1894-95 for Bacchante, Prêtresse de Bacchus, La Perle (Salon, 1894, no. 248) and Le Ravissement de Psyché (Salon 1895, no. 258).
To be included in the forthcoming Bouguereau catalogue raisonne currently being prepared by Damien Bartoli with the assistance of Frederick Ross, the Bouguereau Committee and the American Society of Classical Realism.
