Cheddar Gorge, the largest gorge in Britain links the Somerset levels to the Mendlop hills. Daniell was the nephew and pupil of Thomas Daniell, whom he accompanied and workd with in India 1785-94. After studying at Royal Academy schools in 1799, Daniell soon turned his attention to British scenery and between 1814 and 1825 produced the celebrated scenes of engravings, 'A Voyage round Great Britain'.
