WILLIAM HARRISON AINSWORTH (1805-1882); GILBERT A BECKETT (1837-1891) Autograph letter signed ("W. Harrison Ainsworth") to an unnamed recipient, 2pp., 8°, Kensal Lodge, Harrow Road, London, Nov 5th, 1839, discussing portraits of himself. "My newsman has left me a copy of the Literary World, containing the portrait of "Jack Sheppard," after Sir James Thomlish. I wish I had known of this earlier, as I have since discovered where Sir J. T.'s portrait is to be purchased for 3 guineas." He offers to send a Mr. Timbs an original drawing of himself by Mr. Lane and to furnish the recipient of the letter with some particulars for a possible memoir. He wishes to give Timbs preference over another application and encloses a proof impression of his portrait.
