The Marine Atlas or Seaman's Complete Pilot for all the principal places in the known world. London: W. Heather, [c. 1806?]. 2° (645 x 405mm). 57 double-page engraved maps and charts, all mounted on guards, of which 39 folding, double-page engraved plate of flags, this latter and the world map and map of Egypt coloured by a contemporary hand, imprint on pasted overslip on title, Heather's trade label pasted on front pastedown. (2 loose maps, 3 maps with small chips, 9 maps trimmed close with loss to imprint, map border or longitude scale, last 2 maps heavily soiled, chipped, frayed and dust-soiled, about 8 other maps with marginal dust-soiling, a few others with light fraying and creasing, a couple of maps with tears but generally without loss.) Contemporary half calf over marbled-paper covered boards (worn, spine defective). Provenance: Hyde Parker (1784?-1854; son of Admiral Sir Hyde Parker [1739-1807]; grandson of Vice-Admiral Sir Hyde Parker, baronet [1714-1782/3]): 2 documents deriving from his voyage in command of the Iphigenia on the North American station, August and November 1819, comprising one note of sailing directions signed by Rob[er]t Schank, and a manuscript map of Cabo de la Vela, Columbia, showing Iphegenia's anchorage, August 1819; together with a manuscript map of Haiti, and two manuscript copies of a printed map of Bermuda found in the atlas on paper watermarked 1809, various sizes, loosely inserted.

EXTREMELY RARE SEA ATLAS, with 10 maps relating to North America, the Caribbean and South America, and 12 maps of Asia. The contents call for 57 maps and the plate of flags; the present lot contains two maps not called for in the contents list, viz: Heather's improved chart of the Bermudas, 1805; and Heather's survey of the River Plate, 1806.
