Lot Essay

Active 1845-1847 in New Bedford, Mass., Ledyard, Conn. and Berwick, Maine as a portrait painter, Kennedy is one of the known group of "Prior-Hamblin" artists (see lot 2). Stylistically, his works resemble those of the other two painters, although no direct relationship between the three have been recorded.
