The Rev. William Whiteside (1771-1806) was a Scholar of Trinity College, Dublin and graduated with a BA in 1794. He became a minister in the Church of Ireland and serving as a parish parson he was appointed Headmaster of Rathmines Collegiate, County Dublin. In 1806 he died of fever, leaving his wife, Anne, née Robinson, and children in straightened circumstances. Their second son, James (1804-76), became a renown judge and politician.
