4 volumes, 4o (202 x 165 mm). Titles printed in red and black. Copper engraved allegorical frontispice to vol. I depicting an Oriental library, repeated copper engraved portrait frontispiece to vols. II and IV. (Some light foxing or browning.) Contemporary half-vellum over speckeld boards (light wear, spine labels renewed). Provenance: Alfred Cave (stamp on front fly-leaves).
FIRST EDITION of this rare bibliography of Hebrew books which has remained an indispensable work of reference decribing about 10,000 works. Volume three ends with a sample of Genesis in Judeo-Greek, taken from the Constantinople Jewish Polyglot published in 1547. This is the first scholarly treatment of a text in this Jewish language. Wolf, one of the great scholars of his time, was professor of oriental languages at University of Leipzig and the author of many books. Fine set with the ownership stamp in each volume of Alfred Cave (1847-1900), congregation divine and professor of Hebrew and church history at Hackney College. (4)
