Paris Church & Green Fruit (Lot 161) was painted in 1996. It is an iconic work that represents Ye Yongqing's Entertainment Period during the mid-1990s. By assembling newspaper clippings, traces of graffiti, political posters, head-shots of fictitious personalities, text and symbols, the artist constructed a public diary of a specific point in time. It is a textual painting that narrates the historical and philosophical musings of everyday life. This work subverts and ridicules the inherent meanings in reality and history. The visually rich experience brings audience absurdity and humour in a graffiti-inspired art style. Ye Yongqing's works always follow his romantic temperament. The artist leisurely captures the lyrical elements that roam freely in real life.
